I would like to thank the Australian Health Promotion Association and Public Health Association of Australia, SA Branches for the honour of receiving the SA Primary Health Care Practitioner Award for 2014.

Both these organisations have been instrumental in my career development. Their professional support and advocacy work provides the inspiration and leadership needed to get through the difficult times working in a sector that’s been severely cut, especially recently.

The award is named in recognition of the achievements of the South Australian Community Health Association (SACHA), which was an independent community health lobby group. The Association’s purpose was to promote a social view of health and to encourage the development and maintenance of publicly funded community health services in South Australia. Although SACHA no longer exists as an entity, its contribution to community health is recognised through the naming of this award.

I’m so very grateful and humbled to receive this award which was presented at the State Population Health Conference on 18th October 2014.
